oliver2-44 10,739 #1 Posted June 17, 2016 I have a1972/73? MTD edger that was my grandfathers that I've decided to try and breathe some life back into. I spend my high school summers doing his yard with this. He was a seed and nursery stock salesman and always had the best looking hard in town, When I mowed for him if I didn't over lay my passes and left any missed strips "holidays" as he called them, I had to go back and cut them with a hand clippers. Needless to say I learned to do a good job and look it over before I shut the mower down. I realize it's not worth spending a lot of money on, but there some family nostalgia in this old edger. Back to that edger Brigs motor It has a Briggs engine. The starter cover says 2hp Model 60102, Type 0294-01, Code 7209083. The little bit of info in the operators manual indicates this should have a 2-5/16 bore, but the bore measures 2.375 to 2.377. Al the covers and engine pain match and have the same age patina which would leave me to believe the starter comer and model numbers are correct for the block. it has about 30psi compression. I don't feel much of a wear ridge at the top of the cylinder, and the cylinder wall has a tiny bit of hone marks left, but the valve have a lot of carbon and look quite pitted. So I'm hopping just a valve job will get it going. I've searched online, but Briggs specs seem had to find detailed overhaul/spec type info on. Can anyone point me to the overhaul specs for this engine. Yes, I need to follow up with some photos.
