There is no way that ANY snowstorm or power failure is taking me ALIVE! I did some quick re-arranging of attachments this morning and heres the lineup....

414 with 10 KW generator (had mower deck and bagging system on it 4 hours ago)

C141 with 42" snowthrower.... (Had 5KW generator on it...)

C125 with 48" plow and weights

B80 with 42" plow, 4 wheel weights, ATV Tires on rear and Sno-Hog snowblower tires on the front

And the honorable mention----

The Snow is now falling and Sparky and I will be doing battle later.....

HI Duff, Yah 10 KW is big and really too much for the 14 Kohler once I exceed about 6500--7000 watts (my house runs fine on a 5000 setup so I am not worried). This 10 kw setup was for sale at last years show for a very good price and I couldn't resist.... Someday I think it will be mounted on my 520-8 and I can fully wire my house to take advantage. Right now the house has a 6 circuit gentran setup and only the essential stuff is powered---Furnace, Fridge, Well Pump, Basic lighting on each floor, and my garage lights so I can work out there on something that may break.

Snow is falling heavily and we already have 3-4" down in the last couple hours... I want to go out and play but will wait till it really piles up so I can put the 42" blower to work.

Snow just started here about an hour ago and boy, is it coming down! Weather gurus say you folks are going to get the brunt of this one, though, with more on the way Sunday.

I was thinking of taking my plow off and mounting a sump pump. It's been pouring here for several hours now. All the snow went north and west of us. Guess me and Butch will go spash in the puddles....................... :horseplay:

Tony, Looks like even if a blizzard hits your all set.

Have to look at the manual but our 10K generator recommends 20hp for full output but I think it says 16hp can be used for lower loads. Ours also suggests drawing power from both the 220V twist lock plug plus the 110v standard plug to get full use of the power output.

10K is a pretty big generator. What consumer was WH looking for when they made these things? Someone to do welding out in the fields? I wouldn't think

they were targeting residential power failures or campers.

HI--its not a Wheel Horse generator or even a Wheel Horse mount. It was custom made and is very well at that. I bought the whole rig for less than what the 10KW Chinese (junkie... this one isn't Chinese) genset would cost at Harbor Freight...

I thought I've seen other tractors with them. Maybe not WH, but I thought they made generators to run off the PTOs. If they did make generators for this purpose I can't figure out who they were targetting.

My guess is they were targeting residential users. To run a house it couldnt hurt to have 10K or more to handle the load and not be running at the maximum limit all the time. One of the eletricians might explain it better.

I think I posted pics of this generator mounted on a Steiner before.

Even 10kw is border line for a whole house depending on what appliances are gas/electric. I spec most at 12kw. Also, a rule of thumb is 2hp per 1kw. That 14 will spin the 10kw but like you said, you will probably only get ~7kw out of it. Although, these kohlers and Onans imo put out more then the motors today so you could get alittle more then 7kw. Also, it is better on a generator to run at 80-95% load then to run at a 20% load.

Keep us posted on your storm, they are forcasting 4-7 inches for my area here in the midwest. I'm not worried about the electricity going out but am looking forward to plowing some snow and taking my new (to me) snowmobile out if I have time.

Something to look out for when generator shopping; make sure the wattage rating is for running watts and not the higher "surge" wattage. Some makers will list the short term surge capability as if the genset will maintain that load. :hide:
