Shynon 7,482 #1 Posted June 3, 2016 So I'm working on a Kohler Command CV16s in a Toro Wheel Horse lawn tractor. It will only run with the choke on, I have cleaned and rebuilt the carb, removed the gas cap. And I still and unable to make it run with out the choke on. Thought I would ask if anyone here has some experience with this engine, what am I missing?
953 nut 60,224 #2 Posted June 4, 2016 I always start with a new spark plug even if it appears to be a fuel problem. If an engine needs to be choked to run it is starving for fuel and the only way to achieve an air/fuel ratio that is explosive is to reduce the air supply. Is the fuel pump providing enough pressure? Could be the float is set too low, perhaps the needle is bound up and not free to clear the seat enough to allow fuel in. I would begin by checking the flow from the fuel pump. If it is good remove the carburetor and clean it again.

Those passages are so small that it doesnt take much. I'd be interested to see what you find. I am always willing to learn something new.
Shynon 7,482 #4 Posted June 5, 2016 Got it taken care of today. The fuel pump was not pumping fuel, bought a new fuel pump still not working. Tested the solenoid and found it was not working, pulled the plunger out of it and installed an inline fuel shut off. As a solenoid was 287.00 from my local Wheel Horse dealer
953 nut 60,224 #5 Posted June 5, 2016 Glad you got it going. Those newfangled contraptions with all the fancy solenoids are more trouble than they are worth.
