Mower deck Toro - model 78350

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to replace the bearings in the spindles of the mower deck.  I am having a hard time getting the pullys off of the top of the spindles.  Are they press fit?  I put a puller on them and only bent the pully.  Do I need to take it apart from the bottom up...?

Help - the grass is getting really long and the wife is starting to notice...

No the pulleys are a real PIA to remove from those tapered shafts without hurting them and some guys have exceptional luck and don't, but there is another thread on here just a week or so ago about this just use the search feature "removing deck spindles/pulleys" ,should get the info you need,Jeff.

1) take the blades off

2) find 3 open core cement blocks and set deck spindles into the cores so the deck lays flat

3) remove the grease zerk

4) back off the top nut off of spindle 3 or 4 turns

5) using a BRASS ball-peen hammer on the shaft...

6) WHACK the brass hammer with a BFH...driving the shaft down thru the pulley...the nut will stop it from going all the way out.

7) don't be bashful... WHACK it with some aggression and pissed-offed' ness.

I have spare replacement pulleys if your efforts have damaged the one you have.
