macpark 3 #1 Posted May 23, 2016 (edited) I have putting a Kohler command Pro in my 607 Wheel Horse. The Techumseh engine has a 5x2.5" bolt pattern whereas the Kohler has a 6.375x3.125 bolt pattern. The Techumseh bolts to an adapter plate/engine mount plate and that plate bolts into frame. What do I do to get around this? Are there any current production engines that have the 5"x2.5" bolt pattern for drop in replacement? The holes in the frame are 7.625x5 Thanks in advance. oldredrider 2,553 #2 Posted May 23, 2016 Can you just drill new holes in the riser plate for the Kohler?
macpark 3 #3 Posted May 23, 2016 Thanks for the response. The riser plate has only 6.125" of flat metal front to back before it curves down so there is not enough metal to drill both the front and rear holes. I'm new to this so I am hoping I'm missing something obvious. I'm hoping someone has made some type of an adapter plate for this. Thanks
953 nut 59,735 #4 Posted May 23, 2016 Any weld shop or machine shop will be glad to cut a steel plate the size you need, just tell them how thick it is and the size you want it to be.
Dennys502 246 #5 Posted May 23, 2016 I'm not sure how the engines compare but you need to measure from the base of the engine to the center of the shaft on the engine. You will probably have to make a motor mount to get the shaft in the same position horizontally and vertically. It looks like the Tecumseh is 4.17 inches from the base to the center line of the shaft. I don't know which kohler you are looking at so I don't know the dimensions for it. I can design a mount for you if I know the command pro engine.

I can design a mount for you if I know the command pro engine. That is awesome offer to help me with the motor mount - thank you. It is a Command Pro CH270. I have attached a PDF of the technical specifications. Here is a link to the full service manual: http://www.kohlerengines.com/onlinecatalog/pdf/17_690_01_EN.pdf It looks like the height is going to be the same as the old one (listed on the CH270 as 4.173). The side to side and front to back is going to move with the different mounts. I measured the Techumesh HH70 and the CH270 and found the following: The bottom of the CH270 will need to be at the same height as the bottom of the HH70. The right mounts as seated in the seat will be 1.25" to the right of the HH70 The front mounting holes of the CH270 will be .655" inches in front of the front mounts of the HH70. I don't really trust my measurements so I'm hopeful a diagram of an HH70 is available to you to confirm what I am seeing. Thanks so much for the help with this. I can't wait to get this running again but I'm going to miss starting up the HH70 and hearing it chug to life. TECH_SPEC_ch270.pdf
macpark 3 #7 Posted May 23, 2016 I have posted a couple pictures of the HH70 mounting pattern. Thanks!
macpark 3 #8 Posted May 24, 2016 The exact model of the engine is HH70-140060J I'm just trying to make sense of this - is the HH70 bolt pattern different than the H70? I cannot seem to understand why the old engine and tractor are expecting a 5x2.5 mount but all the available engines seem to be a different standard
Howie 899 #9 Posted May 24, 2016 Does the bolt pattern on the Kohler Command match the pattern on the Tecumseh plate?

The wings on the plate go to the frame. The engine mounts in the center.
Howie 899 #11 Posted May 24, 2016 I guess what I was thinking that i have never seen a Tecumseh mounted of those holes in the block. Seems like there might have been another plate they used maybe made of aluminum? Should have looked closer at the picture was thinking of the holes where that plate bolts to frame. That pattern is probably the same as the K series Kohler.
