 I took the drive and a few pictures. There were two responses to my post I tried to check on. 1st to remove the hydro bracket to see if an ID tag may be behind it. No luck on that, I brought no sockets with me and couldn't hold the nuts on the back side.The second response I could do something with was the thought that a longer hood may indicate an 854. I have a 701, the hood wouldn't fit. Too short. I took pictures of the two hoods side by side and a couple more of the tractor. Don't quit on me guys, I'd love to know what she was.

If that coil was somewhere else, it the the air cleaner was one of those short flat ones , if the weight bracket weren't on, I think the 701 hood might fit. 

Some one mentioned 5 bolt hubs, this girl has them.

So the hood is a couple inches longer than your 701 hood?  I'm sticking with 854 then.

First year for the 8hp K181 which has a larger air filter that sticks out further than the earlier modeled 7HP K161.

The 854 had a longer hood than the earlier models.

Frames would still be the same length though.

 

I still believe it's a 854 with a 702 tank and dash.  

 

The model id was a sticker on these years.

It was low on the hood stand in front of the shifter like this.  Is there any sign of a square decal that maybe got painted over?

It would have had a serial number on it.

Would have had a short hood then.  7HP Kohler = short hood.
