If you are doing the static timing according to the tutorial listed here on the forum, then I would try a new spark plug first, new spark plug wire next, new condenser, and lastly a new coil.

I installed new points but I've been messing around so much with them I might need to clean them. what is best way to clean? I'll try a new plug also. the coil is new but I haven't touched the condenser yet.

Ideally a points file...but a new $1 bill also works (Currency paper has a slight abrasiveness to it).  New because you don't want finger oils/dirt.
