V-Four 34 #1 Posted May 16, 2016 Hey gang, I'm new in the square, just thought Id post some pics of my "new to me" 1986 WheelHorse 312-8 model 21-12K802. I needed a solid worker to maintain the lawn at my new house, hopefully this will do the trick. Anyway, this 312-8 needs a few things.(and needs a serious cleaning) The guy said they kept up on it, but its missing a few screws and nuts and bolts here and there. Missing 3 of the 4 "machine screws?" in the doohickey where the shifter is (sorry didn't get a pic of that yet). These don't seem like a big deal, I can figure that out. BUT, the side panel/belt cover kabob is missing 2 of 3 ? Bolts that connect the front (top & bottom) to the "framety peice". Should there be spacers in between there? If I close the inch or so gap, the bottom edge appears out of line with the pulley/belt there(see close up photo). So, do yall go to the local dealer for bolts etc, or just the hardware store? Looks like my font changed size somewhere here.. Oh, almost forgot- it looks like theres sorta some home made doo-hickey on the front there? (diff color/ home made-ey look) any ideas on what that's for? Thanks gang.
WHX?? 53,076 #2 Posted May 16, 2016 (edited) Nothin better for a mower than a well kept 312-8, well maybe a 416 but still.... Hardware store for nuts & bolts... That whitchamacallit hanging off the front might have been for suitcase weights or possibly just a bumper for pushing stuff. Only God and whoever built it whould know for sure. Go to the manuals section and get an IPL for it, that will tell you what you need to know about spacers & hardware & such. This might be the one Lots of other good files for your tractor there as well. BTW Edited May 16, 2016 by WHX61/3

elcamino/wheelhorse 9,362 #4 Posted May 16, 2016 Welcome to Red Square. Machine looks in good shape. You never know what a previous owner means by I kept up with the maintenance. I would suggest checking the fuel line to see if looks old and buying a can of Sea Foam( most auto stores sell it).

She seems to run good, I checked the fluids, all good. Mowed the lawn, came out good (I doo have a hilly area by the pool, so Im looking into some traction enhancements). And yes, I'll try the seafoam, ( I keep some on hand, as I try to stock up when its on sale.) Thanks
