K301 Carburetor: Rebuild or Replace

Recommended Posts

semperfi8185

Started up the 73 12 Automatic yesterday to get my mow on and noticed some black smoke when starting the engine and gas dripping from the air cleaner right befor shutting the engine off.  Do I rebuild or replace a 43 year old carb?

Thanks

Greg

Kits on :techie-ebay: are about $10 and probably a new needle and seat is all you need. Check the throttle shaft to see how much play it has too.

Yes, try giving it a good soaking and cleaning first.

Based on the expert responses to my post I will give it a good cleaning befor buying a replacement. Will let you know how it goes.

I ended up having to replace the one I had on a k341 due to worn throttle shaft.  I tried cleaning/new gasket kit and it still leaked.  Replacement was an ebay special and haven't had an issue since.
