C-100 Engine Swap

Recommended Posts

My 75 C-100's K241 is finally giving it up and I wanted to swap it out for a 78 C-101 K241 this weekend. Just noticed that the oil pans and motor mounts are quite different. The 75 is a K241S with a deep oil pan that sits directly on the frame rails and the 78 is a K241AS with a very short oil pan that sits on some kind of motor mount that is mounted to the frame rails.

I thought it was going to be a simple drop in replacement but maybe not. I thought about switching the oil pans to keep the mounting the same on the C-100, they should be swap-able, right? Will the one with the deeper oil pan have a longer oil dipper paddle that will need to be changed as well? I suppose the other alternative would be to use the C-101 motor as is and try to figure out how to mount the motor mount to the frame of the C-100. Wish I had known about this problem last fall instead of finding out during the first grass cutting of the season. Grass is growing and I've got to get mowing! Any advise form the experts would be greatly appreciated.

Oh by the way, I'm not really new here just haven't been on in quite a few years and when I tried to log on the site didn't know me so I had to setup a new account. My bookmark to the site didn't work anymore either, did something change over the last few years?

Sorry I didn't do a little more research before I posted my question. The info was very helpful. I guess my idea to use the K241S oil pan on the K241AS block is a no go. I will have to see what it takes to mount the "shaker motor mount" on the C-100 frame. I suppose if the correct holes are not already there, they can be drilled, it will just be a matter of getting the motor properly positioned. If anyone has done this I'd love to hear form you!

Thanks

I mounted a K-341AS (cradle mount) in a C-160  for test purposes. Only had to drill 2 holes in the frame for the cradle blocks. Everything else lined up perfectly. If I remember correctly, it was the rear blocks that needed holes in the frame.

Thanks oldredrider, hope to tear into it tomorrow. A couple of holes wouldn't be too bad, provided it all lines up.
