Kohler Command Series Engine Question

Recommended Posts

dxvoyager

Hello! This is my first time on this site. I'm hoping for good things.

I have a mower with a Kohler Command Series CV14 engine in it. When we (mostly my wife) were using it, we'd notice that it works fine for the first 10 to 15 minutes. After that, the engine would want to die. If we throttled it down, it would stay running. But once we throttled it back up again and started using it, it would do the same thing.

My wife thinks we need a new engine. I don't think the whole engine needs to be replaced, but I cannot convince her to take it to our local lawn shop to have them look at it.

We have installed a brand new fuel filter.

Based on my description, what COULD it be? And if in fact my wife is right, where can I get a new engine. I've Googled a couple of times but cannot find one.

Thank you in advance for any replies.

Welcome to the forum.

Try running it with the fuel cap loose. They have a vent but it may be plugged.

Adding

Here is an operator manual and a service manual on that engine. May be some info in them.

1st of all, :WRS:

I think your carburetor needs a cleaning.

If you want to try a can of SEAFOAM in about 5 gallons of gasoline (non ethanol preferable) and run this through your engine, it may help, otherwise you will need a carb rebuild.

:text-yeahthat::WRS:   There is also a possibility that your fuel pump is getting weak. Ethanol fuel has a tendency to dry out diaphragms on small engine fuel systems.
