nhmikel 14 #1 Posted May 9, 2016 (edited) Not sure if this is right place to post?? On a recent purchase..we have a rear axle leak between the 4" hub and the center section I believe. Does anyone have a parts manual with pics to help? Easy to fix? I will post better pics when able to? Edited May 9, 2016 by nhmikel Model correction
squonk 43,844 #2 Posted May 9, 2016 Axle seals. Hardest part is getting the old hubs off. Looks like one side has been apart already.
953 nut 60,114 #4 Posted May 9, 2016 These two manuals should be helpful, also you can do a search on here for "axle seal" and will find threads of others doing this job and what is involved. Let us know how you do.
nhmikel 14 #5 Posted May 14, 2016 Can anyone recommend a thread to help aide in the replacement? Do we need to break the case?
Racinbob 11,942 #6 Posted May 15, 2016 No, there's no need to open it up. Once you get the hubs off simply pick the old seals out with a small screwdriver or other pointed device. Make sure the axles are free of burrs that will damage the new seal. Clean them up good with emery paper paying close attention to the keyway slot. You may want to put a piece of tape over it. Lightly oil the new seal and slide it on. I use a large washer and a piece of pvc pipe to gently drive it in place. Using the washer you are assured that it will be flush with the case.
