Your Shirtless Neighbor 2 #1 Posted April 26, 2016 (edited) A little craigslist find came to me this weekend. Paid $60 for a non-running 8-25 Wheel Horse mower... owner said it had an electrical issue. After about 15 minutes of tinkering, with my multi-meter, I discovered that the terminal bolts on the battery were stripped. $2 later for some 1/4-20 bolts and lock nuts.... she fired right up! I was able to mow my entire lawn on the PO's tank of gas... then I de-thatched it! Lol... Anyway, all isn't rosey... After it warmed up, if I went from full throttle down to idle, it would hang at about 3/4 throttle... the lever on the motor was all the way to the right (idle) and the choke was disengaged... The only way to get the RPM's to drop down to where the lever was set, was to slightly engage the deck... this dropped the motor down to idle and it would stay there. Does this sound like an air-leak? I hear no hissing, but I haven't gone chasing around the intake with WD-40 yet either... It's a flat-head "power built" 8hp Briggs vertical shaft. Where should I start? Edited April 26, 2016 by AimlessMoto
stevasaurus 23,281 #2 Posted April 26, 2016 1st thing...take a can of carb cleaner and spray all the linkage around the carb...while the horse is running. It just sounds like something is sticking on you.
953 nut 60,104 #3 Posted April 26, 2016 Good deal! Like Steve said, probably the linkage to the governor has a burr on it or is sticking.
woodchuckfarmer 333 #4 Posted April 26, 2016 I had a briggs twin opposed do that . The linkage rod was worn out, to much slop in it.
