What's a fair asking price?

Recommended Posts

Looking into selling the deck off my sons lawn ranger for a lot of different reasons, but I don't see many of these decks around so sometimes that help the value and sometimes it hurts the value... So what a fair asking price for a nice deck in good working order? Came off my 1967 L-157 so it's 32 inch rear discharge deck. Thanks

Two years ago, I sold 2 of them at the Wheel Horse show for $325.00 total.

What shape were they in?

One was in real nice shape and the other had some rust-through, but very repairable.

I'd say $100-$150 would be reasonable for that pictured deck, if you can find someone that needs a lawn ranger deck.

If the deck has holes, tight bearings, or needs to be gone through, then less money.

Has no holes and everything's works great. Would be easy restore if wanted and if someone here wanted it I would take $120

If I were you, I would discontinue this thread and place a sale ad in the classifieds. :)

I think it would be more valuable to keep it with the lawn ranger you  have. The first thing someone will ask you if you ever decide to sale is weres the deck.

Plans change though.  Some day, your son may want a deck for the tractor when you're long gone.

Believe me I have enough decks and I don't even mow my yard with a tractor I push mow it. To me these old tractors look better without decks. My 310-8 will be the mower if we needed. And everyone telling me to keep the deck... Well if no one ever sold the decks ppl with rotted decks would never have any to buy! Right?

So it sounds like 120.00 is a good price then. Just my 0.02.

Good thing keeping it or not wasn't the question then... If no one buys it I will just store it in my dads garage and move south. If you guys would keep it come buy it so you can keep it lol

Well, I have a 32" and a 36" of that style deck in the garage with no plans to sell them, but that's just me. But something doesn't look right to me about those blades in the first pic. If those blades are to turn in the same direction, let's say counter clockwise looking at the picture, then the blade on the left is cutting on the sharpened side of the blade but the right blade is cutting on the dull not sharpened side. Am I right or am I seeing things?

I didn't know that, but now it makes since cents scents and sense. :ychain: I wonder now if the decks I have operate the same way. They are for mid to late sixties models like the Commando 8. I'll have to check that out. Thanks Mike for returning my eyeballs back to their sockets.

Decks with belt driven blades spin the shafts in the same direction. The gear decks spin them opposite.
