Fordiesel69 271 #1 Posted April 20, 2016 What is the overall opinion of tubing a tire with dry rot cracks on the sidewall? A local shop is refusing to tube it even though they tubed ones way worse for me that are still working 5 yrs later. What has your experience been. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

DougC 2,643 #7 Posted April 20, 2016 Before I retired I was a tech at GM dealerships. What I was allowed to do was limited by the rules of each service manager as far as safety was concerned. What I did to my own vehicles was my own business however. Some dealers insisted we try to sell new tires even if repairs were possible within our tire guidelines. If I were you I would go to the next shop down the road and have a tube installed. If you can see beyond the cracks,,,and see the white nylon below the rubber....maybe its time.....we are talking 12-16 lbs..... I also own a Harbour Frieght ...garden tractor tire changer.....2 sizes....both work great..... I tube everything (E.B.) <------ my sourse,,,i buy 2 at a tyme.....and keep them on a shelf.....all wheels buffed of any rust....prime and paint....powder coat if $$$ allows... bald heads ,,bald tires...out of time....end of the road....all things in their own time.....good time !!!!!!!
