Fordiesel69 271 #1 Posted April 20, 2016 What is the overall opinion of tubing a tire with dry rot cracks on the sidewall? A local shop is refusing to tube it even though they tubed ones way worse for me that are still working 5 yrs later. What has your experience been.
ol550 830 #2 Posted April 20, 2016 Your local shop and you are feeling the effects of too many lawyers wanting to make a quick buck. No to them doing it covers their behind if something should go wrong while they do it for you and after if it blows while you are installing back on your machine.

pacer 3,177 #4 Posted April 20, 2016 550 has probably hit on it ..... As far as doing it and getting many more years out of a tire, dang right!! I do them myself, thats why I went and got HF's inexpensive tire 'breakerdowner'
clip 185 #5 Posted April 20, 2016 (edited) On a non-highway service tire, especially at low speeds, I haven't had issues. And I've had tubes bulging out the sides of my 8.3-24s on the Cub, with 150lb weights each side. Edited April 20, 2016 by clip

DougC 2,643 #7 Posted April 20, 2016 Before I retired I was a tech at GM dealerships. What I was allowed to do was limited by the rules of each service manager as far as safety was concerned. What I did to my own vehicles was my own business however. Some dealers insisted we try to sell new tires even if repairs were possible within our tire guidelines. If I were you I would go to the next shop down the road and have a tube installed. It's a garden tractor after all, not Clarke Griswalds Family Truckster station wagon.

If you can see beyond the cracks,,,and see the white nylon below the rubber....maybe its time.....we are talking 12-16 lbs..... I also own a Harbour Frieght ...garden tractor tire changer.....2 sizes....both work great..... I tube everything (E.B.) <------ my sourse,,,i buy 2 at a tyme.....and keep them on a shelf.....all wheels buffed of any rust....prime and paint....powder coat if $$$ allows... bald heads ,,bald tires...out of time....end of the road....all things in their own time.....good time !!!!!!!
