JAinVA 4,638 #2 Posted April 18, 2016 (edited) j main, If the plug is a standard pipe plug then you should only use a square drive socket. Not something most people have beyond 3/8". Remove the plug with a Cresent wrench or vise grip pliers and go the your local Lowes,Home Depot or hardware store and get a new one. Most pipe plugs are meant to be removed with an adjustable wrench or pipe wrench. If the thing is square, no hex socket will work.JAinVA Edited April 18, 2016 by JAinVA
KC9KAS 4,744 #3 Posted April 18, 2016 There are 8 point sockets for the square pipe plugs. The 12 point socket fit, but they too will round the corners if the plug is tight! Most of my engines have an extensions on the drains to allow easier access. They also have a Hex cap instead of a plug.
Ed Kennell 42,109 #4 Posted April 18, 2016 Replace it with a socket head (allen) pipe plug.
