Achto 29,389 #1 Posted April 10, 2016 I recently acquired an 867 that was missing a couple parts. One thing I was missing was the belt guard. I posted a want add but received no replies. I was looking at the manual and thought "I could build that if I had the dimensions" Thanks to my new found friend I was able to get my dimensions, good story with that. I had noticed a sitting not far from my home some time ago. Today when I drove by I noticed the owner outside so I stopped in to talk Horse's with him. Turns out the tractor was an 857 (same belt guard) but it didn't have the guard on it. The owner said the guard was there some place, well after 45min of digging through the snow we found it grown under dead grass. I asked if I could get measurements off of it so that I could make one. He told me take it home & get your measurements, bring it back when your done. Didn't ask for my address or phone number. Guess some tractor people are just great like that. He's having some issues with his & is not computer friendly so I'm going to print him up some manuals to help him through his issues. Any way got home, grabbed a some paper & some drawing utensils and made up a drawing. Then I went out to the garage, grabbed a piece of 16ga sheet metal & went to work. I wanted to show my results. These are pics of the original next to the one I made. If you can't buy it some times you gotta make it. A little primer & paint and most will not be able to tell the difference and it was a fun project for a poor weather day. Plus I made a new Horse friend!
JPWH 6,338 #2 Posted April 10, 2016 (edited) Nice job on the belt guard. And a new friend to boot. That's what I would call a great day. Edited April 10, 2016 by JPWH Spelling

Bach-Ed 170 #5 Posted April 10, 2016 Did you save the dimensions? If so would you post them for future reference? Might save another RS member a lot of work in the future (or maybe you might want to get in the repro business?)

I did save the dimensions and will post them soon along with a layout print for cutting the metal,(need to draw up the cut out print) As far as going into business I would need some better tooling. My current metal brake consists or a good sturdy square bench, a heavy piece of angle iron, two C clamps and a plastic dead blow hammer. Crude but if you take your time you can get good results. Plus, I learned some time ago to never turn your hobby into your job. I've lost interest in hobbies this way before.
