1267 electrical question

Been restoring my 1267 over the past few months. My question is about the ignition switch and the charge indicator light. My indicator light is missing all the internals (bulb and whatever else was there). The lens and base are in good shape. Without knowing what was on the inside, I thought i would try an old indicator light from an old Cat machine. It works but while researching through the electrical forum I might have come across a problem. I down loaded the wiring diagram for my model and could not tell the exact terminal to mount the wires from the indicator. Also when I turn the switch to the start position the starter turn, engine fires but when the key is allowed to go back to run position the engine dies. I feel I have a bad switch. It is also intermittent as it shows OK with my multi meter when testing.

Question is, does the indicator lamp use only input from start post and the ignition post on switch. Is there anything the original indicator lamp had inside like internal ground or something like that.

Thank you all for the help over the past few months. I have gained a lot of info from you all and thank you so much for sharing. I think the switch may be gummed up inside but didn't want to tear it down without knowing for sure I can get one.

OK, had to do a quick self test again. I think all is fine but the switch has an issue. I made sure of the connections and all OK. What I found was if I jiggle the key in switch I get voltage on the ignition switch when it is in the ON position. I do need a switch, any info on a part number. It is the three prong switch and as far as I know original to the machine. Thanks again for any help.

Yes, the indicator light connects to the start and ignition terminals of the ignition switch, two wires going to the two terminals on the light bulb; no reference to ground on the lamp or lamp holder. Strange that your test light checks out OK and it fires in start, I would begin by removing the wires to the indicator light and see if the engine dies when returned to run. If so it probably is the switch, if not post a wanted ad in our Classified section for the light with socket.

Thank you for the info. What I found is the switch to have issue. I will order a switch. Looking at the thread I see that my lighter looks just like the one in the picture so I am happy it is original. Just wished it looked as good. Will have it refinished or find one in better condition.

I did remove the wire from the indicator and got the same issue. The ignition is hot until you go from start to run. When I wiggle the key a little I do get voltage and all OK until I start again.. Switch looks so good without any rust and patina and wanted to use it but..Anyway Thank you all for the help. This sight has been so helpful I would recommend anyone that owns or even thinking about owning a WH to join. Thanks again.
