I have a 416-8 with an aging hole infested deck and came across a deck on Craigslist and was unsure if if will fit. It looks the same but looks can be deceiving. daveoman1966 3,841 #2 Posted March 25, 2016 The pic you posted is for a D series tractor, to confirm what the other guy told you. You only need to swap over the lift hardware from your rotted out deck onto this and it will hang on your 416-8 without complications or modification. daveoman1966 3,841 #4 Posted March 25, 2016 Just be aware that the deck pulleys, spindles, and cutting blades are NOT like those of your rotted deck. This deck has the much older cast-iron pulleys known as a 'Double-D' style and the 3 blades are also dedicated to the 'Double D' configuration. The shortfall of the 'Double-D' spindle assembly is that they cannot be greased. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
tbarnhart 240 #5 Posted March 26, 2016 Just to add to what Dave said about the old spindle assemblies. I have a similar deck under my C-160 that I added a grease fitting on the spindles to provide a bit of lube to the lower needle bearing. The top bearing is a sealed ball bearing, but the bottom is a small needle bearing that runs against the shaft. They were supposedly factory filled with lube and considered maintenance free. When the bottom bearing goes out, it often scars up the spindle shaft and the whole assembly is junk. Also, the double-D blades are getting hard to find. On the other hand, if the spindles and pulleys off of your old deck are still good, you could swap them out into the better deck shell and continue on. That's what I'm planning on doing. If I can make these spindles last long enough to wear out my last set of double-D blades. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

daveoman1966 3,841 #7 Posted March 26, 2016 I'm surprised.... there really is not much to do to use the D series deck. You only need to swap over the lift hardware. It isn't necessary to swap over the spindles, but you can do that if desired. That D series shell looks like it is in very good shape. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
tbarnhart 240 #8 Posted March 26, 2016 Yea. Again, I'm with Dave. That deck looks nearly brand new. The shell itself is worth quite a bit just because its not worn or rusty. I would buy that and use it until it needed work and then swap over the spindles and pulleys from your current deck, assuming they are good and the pulleys will come off without ruining them. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
