Well as promised I am sending pictures of the 416-8 . Hopefully I don't mess up. I was going today to make a list etc but the weather is nasty (nothing falling yet ) and my naps kept getting in the way. One of these days I will learn to take better pictures. It is  a model 31-16k804  serial number 28460. Have not checked serial number on engine. It is a Magnum 16.

Nice tractor, I'm just wondering how much wood you have to burn to keep your yard warm?  :ychain:

You might want a larger stove for that much footage?

That is my trash burner , rules against burning in the city but no rules about using a wood stove. Had to replace that stove due to it falling apart so I recycled it.

Jim,

I have to admire a devious mind.Good for you.I have a ceremonial fire pit in my front yard.In the county we need a permit to burn any brush pile over 3' tall and can't burn anything within 300' of someones house. With that said a lot of brush has gone up in that fire pit,now if I could just figure out where I put that yardstick.

From what I saw in a dark basement the 520 looked in pretty good shape except for the color. The rear tires and weights do not come with it but he had a nice pair of yellow rims wire tires on them that go with the tractor.

Chip,

Ten bucks would fix the color but the price for a straight axle 520h is crazy. You will be seeing this one on Craigslist for some time.JAinVA

Jim , what do you mean by straight  axle ? I don't know anything about 520's so bare with me.

Straight axle would be what most Wheel Horses have.

520HC and later model 520's have the swept forward axle with heavier spindles, better wheel bearings and later ones also have gear reduction steering.

I have both, and both will do most jobs but you need the swept for the 60" deck.

Gear reduction steering would be nice for a 2 stage blower or a loader.

HD swept axle would also be pretty much a necessity for a loader.

JA - I had been watching a 520H down your way on Craigslist for quite a while. A few weeks ago I noticed the price dropped so at the last minute on the way home from Mathews I contacted the seller and met him to look at it out in the middle of nowhere. It needed some tlc, but was all there and even had a fairly new 42" deck so I told the guy I would get it but didn't have money on me that day because I wasn't planning on getting a tractor when I left home that morning. I called the next Saturday to see if I could pick it up on Sunday and he had sold it during the week. My fault for not getting the money and going right back down there. With a little cleaning and repair somebody got a nice worker-hope it found a good home.

Sorry to hear about the Chip,I  missed a couple by not calling earlier enough during the day. You could call on the Green Machine. Not sure of the year. He likes to trade and dicker on price.

chip61,

I watch Craigs list like a hawk. There are few 520h tractors for sale in Gloucester. If this is the one listed for $600,HokieAg08 told us it went for $300.I was not interested for 6 but would have bought it for $300.Just gotta keep looking and you will find something.

Jim,

By the time I saw you asked about the straight axle difference,Cleat had covered it all.

That's the one! Serves me right for not going back that night, but it had been for sale for so long I didn't expect it to go so quickly. I was down at our place in Mathews and it popped up on my search and I saw it had been reduced to $350.00. I called on my way home and went to look at it. He told me I could have it for $300.00 and I said "sold", but I didn't have tractor cash with me. The deck was worth the $300.00. A friend has a tractor I'm gong to look at soon-he can't remember the model # so I have no idea what it is yet. He thinks it's a 48" deck on it.

Chip you need to brake down and find a D 250 for the vast estate of yours  in Mathews. They were estate tractors. You would have loads of fun with that.

chip61,

The guy with the 520h is a lowlife. If you committed to buying he could have a least given you a chance. That he sold out from under you stinks.I have bought several tractors from different forum members and they all deal fairly. On the list you never know what kind of folks you will come across. Haha estate-that sounds good!  I think a D250 would be a fun tractor, but parts are so hard to come by I would be afraid to use it. I cut about 4 acres (most of it not mine) and the C160 and 314-8 really do a good job with the 48" decks. The 520H would have made a nice worker but I missed out.

I guess cash talks! I wish he had called me but it's okay-it was just a really good deal and would have been a good addition.

All the forum members I have dealt with have been great. I'm gonna wait and look at my friend's tractor before I do anything else. He also has a d250 with a front end loader, but he likes it and I doubt he will ever sell it.
