cleat 7,259 #1 Posted March 19, 2016 If you convert a Wheel horse to gear reduction steering and find your mid rockshaft now hits the steering gear, this is why. The gear reduction rockshaft is around 1/4" shorter. Here is a standard non gear reduction rockshaft. And here is a gear reduction rockshaft. Note how all 3 holes are nearly evenly spaced verses the non gear reduction unit which has the outer hole spaced out further.
JAinVA 4,637 #2 Posted March 20, 2016 (edited) Cleat, Thanks for the information.I am doing a gear reduction conversion on my 416-8 as soon as all the parts arrive. It is better to address the issue at assembly rather than down the road. Thanks, and luck,JAinVA JimAnderson Gloucester,Va Edited March 20, 2016 by JAinVA
cleat 7,259 #3 Posted March 20, 2016 You may be able to redrill your rockshaft and cut a bit off. I would do the steering conversion then carefully rotate the rockshaft noting any interference to the steering gear before cutting if not needed.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,492 #4 Posted March 20, 2016 This was likely the fix before the rockshaft change Garry
cleat 7,259 #5 Posted March 20, 2016 This bulletin covers modifying the lift link itself. Later lift links had the pins offset for clearance.
