fuel pump interchangeable?

Recommended Posts

Trouble shooting my 8hp k181 855 and I think I've narrowed it down to the fuel pump  (vacuum style). What is the best approach? Can they be rebuilt? Is there a replacement that be purchased? I bought a new fuel pump for my 10hp k241 1054. Are they interchangeable?  It has the mechanical arm. I feel like I'm so close to getting this baby working.  Please help.

The K241 pump is not interchangeable with the K181 pump. The K181 had two versions, one with arm and one without. The vacuum style pumps can be rebuilt. Usually it's the diaphragm that goes bad. But there are also a couple of little disk type one-way valves inside that get gummed up. If they are okay, and all you need is a new diaphragm, contact member buckrancher, he sells a nice replacement.

If I can't get a diaphragm can I swap the pump out for the other version with the arm?

You could also consider putting an electric fuel pump on it, lots of threads on here about people doing this.

I ordered a new diaphragm from Brian (Buckrancher) but I need to use the tractor tomorrow so i picked up an electric fuel pump and installed it this evening and she fired right up! I'm so excited. I'm still not sure what I'll do long term, vacuum vs. electric? Regardless tomorrow once I change the oil and put on the new drive belt I plan on putting her to work. I have some gravel to level out. I'll post pictures if all goes well.

Leave it with the electric one on. Save the new diaphragm for the next project. It never hurts to have a spare laying around.
