Phatboy 565 #1 Posted March 12, 2016 Ok guys i saw a post on here about K&N oil filters ,and i always like K&N stuff so when i went to get the stuff for my oil change i askd the guy for the K&N filter with the part number i got off of here,, he looked it up and said it was discontinued,, uugg so i askd him if that number cross referanced to any other good oil filters and he said yes , a Mobil 1, filter ,,Part # M1-102,, ita a High Efficiency,,High Capacity,, Extended Performance filter...so i got it and it is not as tall as the Onan filter , about 3/4 of a inch shorter,,, but i am sure being a mobile 1 filter it has to be a better filter than the stock one,, so i changed oil using T1 Rotella SAE 30W,, and turned key and started and oil pressure light went out instantly ,,so all is good... Just thought id pass that information on to you guys looking for a real good filter,, a little pricey at $12 bucks but the guy at auto zone said they were real good filters..and worth the money..
squonk 42,611 #2 Posted March 12, 2016 That filter crosses to a Napa 1348 which is about 8 bucks. Do yourself self a favor. Next oil change cut that filter open and see if it's really a good filter. You can't get much better than a Napa gold which is actually a Wix. You might be able to save some money next time.

shallowwatersailor 3,214 #4 Posted March 13, 2016 There are two different length filters for the Onan. Sounds like you got the short cross referenced one. It should be fine. Just make sure the one for the Eaton 11 is not an engine filter.
Tankman 3,520 #5 Posted March 13, 2016 I use NAPA never any trouble. And, my NAPA's only a mile away. I use NAPA for a lot of supplies.

MalMac 1,332 #8 Posted March 13, 2016 Just FYI NAPA filters are made by Wix. That's why guys on here are suggesting Wix or NAPA. They are correct they are a good filter. Also Hastings is a good filter they are made by the same company that makes Baldwin Filters. Personally I think the Hastings/Balwin are better filters but ease of finding them and cost is a consideration. I use wix on my Wheel Horses and Hastings or Baldwin on are big farm tractors. Theroundhousernr 590 #9 Posted March 13, 2016 (edited) I have been using the purolator brand. Hope I am spelling that right. Seems to be a good filter and its also a 1/4 inch taller then the larger onan oil filter and just barely fits. Seems to have very good reviews but I think the napa is just as good. MalMac 1,332 #10 Posted March 13, 2016 There were some years of 520's that had a shorter filter. I don't remember which. I had 90 and a 94. Each took a different length of filter.

Purolator filters are fine. I've been using them for years on all of my OPE and never had an issue and I DO cut them open. FYI, Quaker State filters from Menards are Purolators with a different logo on them and usually cost $2-4 a piece. Two years ago I was in a K-mart in Marshall, MI, and came across Purolator Classic and Pure 1 filters for Ford Escorts and Foci for $0.29-1.59 a piece on clearance. I bought them all and have been using them on everything that has a 3/4-16 thread base. Realistically, if we change our filters ever 25-50 hours, any of them will be fine, even the dreaded orange can Fram that has cardboard end caps (I usually buy WIX air and oil and K&N oil filters but I wasn't going to pass up that deal).
cheesegrader 433 #16 Posted March 13, 2016 I can only speak from my experience with 91-97 520H's. The earlier models might be just a little different. Here goes: Oil filter clearance allows for 4 3/4" filters, and that is with a little bending of some tin. 4 1/2" will fit without "encouragement" The Fram 3600 that came with one of my first tractors is 4 3/4 inches, and is the absolute limit of what will fit. I use Wix 51762, and get them by the dozen from fleet supply. They are the same as NAPA gold 1762. 4 1/2 length. I believe they are available with a hex nut built into the cap, Wix51764, but I have no experience with it, and do not know if the length of the nut will cause problems. NAPA 1348 will fit, but it is about 30% smaller than 1764. It seems to me that the higher volume filter is a better choice.

lynnmor 7,585 #21 Posted August 20, 2021 I use only Onan 122-0800 or Fleetguard LF-3339 filters on my 520H tractors. The grommet stays in place and they can easily be removed with a filter socket. Onan sometimes packages the Fleetguard in their green boxes since they are the same company. You can find the Fleetguard filters at a fair price by searching online. rick 245 #22 Posted August 21, 2021 I never lost the grommet when using the longer oil filter.
