Wheel Horse D-160 Front Hubs/Wheels/Tires

Recommended Posts

Things are going slow, I spend more time at the Veterans Hospital than I do at at home and they don't know a crescent wrench from a spatula. I ordered cast iron Dexter Hubs for a small trailer to replace the stock wheel bearing, 30.00 each delivered, and they allow as short as a 4-1/8" spindle. I went with the 12 inch rims as I am going with the 30x10-12's (another story) and installed the tires measure 21 inches tall which is about three inches taller than the 18x8.50-8 turf tire that was on there. Using the cast iron hubs with timken tapered bearings and taller tires will not only give me easier steering, but greater ground clearance for the garden work. I am keeping the lower part of the Onan powered D-160 dash as it has an electric clutch switch in it which I will use when I take off the manual clutch from this D-160 and install my electric clutch I have sitting on the shelf. BTW, ONLY the Onan powered D-160 had an electric clutch, all other D series, single and twin cylinders, were manual clutches.

Bad news on the  30x10-12 tires, I received one, but not two tires, the unnamed company (CHAPA$%AL MOTOR SPORTS) refused to communicate with eBay about sending the second tire so eBay told me to send it back with a prepaid label they supplied and they would refund the entire amount this Monday or Tuesday. My communication with the hemp heads at the unnamed company ( CHAPA%$AL MOTOR SPORTS) was fruitless. Although they admitted that UPS had not picked up the other tire, they were supposed to pick it up, so I would have to wait until they settled the dispute with UPS, (who never had the second tire), before they would send me another. When I called the young man at the unnamed company (CHAPA%$AL MOTOR SPORTS) "doode" he hung up on me, I am going to send him a hurt feeling report so he can fill it out and make a complaint.

Wondering if you could upload that report so all could have access to it?

And, would you please post a close-up if not several of that vise and stand?  Especially the stand?

Oh!  Love the front wheels!

JFWIW (just for what its worth:lol:) I picked up an 18Auto a few mos back - with the Kohler twin - and it has the electric PTO. Mind you, it shows some pretty good indications that it may be a 'retrofit' -- no switch on dash & no safety sw, operates off light sw. but it works perfectly and of course it fit on the Kohler....

By the way --- COOL tires!! I I changed 2 of my D's over to 5.70x8 trailer with lug nut rims - wish I had known about this swap!!

I changed my other D to a 5.30-10 trailer tire with the same cast iron 4 bolt hub The D160 with the 27.9.50-15 rear tires will be my mower

I used the ones in the second link that were 24.95, I never saw the ones in the first link before, they are almost 10 bucks cheaper at 16.88, if they will fir on a 4-1/4" spindle that would be a nice savings. ery nice people over at etrailer. I bought the 12" white steel wheels off epay, item number 20152460852, 8" and 10" Four bolt wheels are also available

The vise is called a Wilton I think, I rescued it from the salvage, I was dumping a load of junk metal when I saw it on the pile, boy did they look at me funny going out only 5 pounds lighter than I came in and this vise out of sight. Its old, but I think it works pretty good, my last vise broke in half when I was trying to bend some 1/8 inch flat stock, a big chunk of the vise hit me in the chest and stuck between two ribs. I got the super glue out and ready before I yanked it out.. The pipe its mounted on goes into a 8 inch I beam in the ceiling and about 4 foot below the floor

So was I. I guess you do need a printer, but to acquire the forum just save it and print it.

I tried it, it was blurry. Besides it's a JPEG. That means it's a picture I want a Doc.

Sorry I don't have a .doc. Good luck on getting one, after the parents of the school system found a copy, you can bet every copy is destroyed or hidden. I believe there is disciplinary action against the teacher that produced the report

That's the point it's a picture and it make a terrible copy.  That's fine you have a Doc. of the report.  I was only stating that a Doc. would make a better copy.  Have to great night.

Man I like that vice . Let us know if you break it or the stand. Let us know the address of the  hospital where you can be located.

That's is a great vice. If you break it I'll take up a collection to see if we can get you a better one. :)

I see I was not the only one hoping for a PDF or some form of an original of that "Feeling Hurt!" form!  Maybe I could OCR it but it would still take me quite a bit of time to nicely reproduce it...

Love the vise and the stand!  And "Wilton" is the "Kleenex" of vises, or well, Cadillac.  I can't think of a more widely known brand of vises.  Really nice stand too!  I'm guessing that vise and stand is not going anywhere no matter what or how hard you tug on it!

I get it....now

I wasn't aware there was a fan base for vises, I thought this one was junk. I also found a horizontal band saw at the same scrap place, just needed two wire nuts inside the junction box. I was driving to the VA the other day and stopped by a roadside swap and shop and found a couple of scrap plows. I only bought them because they were only 10 bucks. I'm a cheap SOB

Thanks for the vise stand closeups but this was what I was curious about originally:

The way the red angled piece lines up with the vise lead me to believe it was the mount and I had never seen anything like that.  See what is below the silver tarp or whatever?  Looks like the vise plate to pipe post angle plate extends on to something on the floor from this viewing angle.  I gather it doesn't but what am I looking at?

That is a piece of railroad Iron I use as an anvil, it is sitting between the post base the vise is mounted to and the drill press base

Not that.  I should have drawn an arrow...  The red/orange angled bent plate.  Heck, is that part of the grille off a D?  Setting beyond your vise/grinder post?  The way it's angle looks like it is part of the vise rein-forcement.  Even sort of matches in color!

The angle piece under the vise is part of the post, behind it is a hood and grille from the D160
