Your Shirtless Neighbor 2 #1 Posted March 2, 2016 So now that my little Tecumseh is back on track, I'd like to attach it to a log splitter, but the tank is a little too high to be able to operate around the machine without knocking into it. I'd like to re-locate the tank under the engine suspended from the I-beam, but that seems too low... So my next idea was to mount it on a plate off the back-side of the splitter, pretty much level with the crank shaft. Will I need a fuel pump? If so, there is no internal way to mount a mechanical pump to the block. Would it be possible to use an electric in-line pump? Thanks.
Terry M-(Moderator) 2,239 #2 Posted March 2, 2016 The fuel level (vs. carburetor level) can only go so low before gravity stops working....Sounds like you already know that. The HH60s in my tractors have a small threaded hole (1/4" I think with a plug in place)machined into the crank case to accommodate a pulse/vacuum powered fuel pump that I've seen on a few tecumseh HH engines. I remember seeing one or more of these style pumps for sale on eBay some time ago and I thought I remember seeing some aftermarket kits available also. I'm betting Some guys here most likely know more about the set-up than I do . it Might be a possibility for your engine......
KC9KAS 4,744 #3 Posted March 2, 2016 If your tank is lower than the carb you will need a fuel pump. Electric is fine or the vacuum operated one. If you go electric you will need a battery, so a log-splitter engine will probably need the vacuum operated pump.
