New rubber, old rims?

Recommended Posts

Retired Sparky

I've got 22'' x 7.50'' - 12'' on the back of my 310.  I was looking to go to 23''x 10.50'' - 12''.    #1, will they fit under the fenders?  #2, Do I need to buy wider rims?

Everything is 30yrs. old so I think it's time for a little dress up.

Also going to 16'' 6.50'' x 8'' on the front.  I've already read that will fit. B)

Sparky,

The 23x10.5x12 tire will fit without any issues on the 310 as long as you use an 8.5" wide rim.If you mount them on the 7.5" they may bulge up more in the center.

A good compromise might be a 9.5" on the 7.5" rim.The rear fender pan and gas tank mount is the same on the 300,400 and 500.Luck,JAinVA

Thanks, It makes sense that a wider rim would prevent the tire form bulging. So you're saying my present rims are 7.50'' wide?   Everything is old so if I replace one item I will replace them both.  I will look at a 9.50''  tire.  B)

Sparky,

The rear rims on my 310 are 7.5".I believe all WHs from the C onward used 7.5 except most 520s.I just put a new set of Deestone 23x9.5x12 turf tires on my 416-8.

These tires are made overseas and come squished to the point that the only way I could get them to seat was to put tubes in them. The same thing as the front tires I put on the 416h.If you get tires from a local dealer then this won't be an issue for you.JAinVA

Carlisle, that's what's on my:wh:.  I think I saw China on the side wall.  I ruined one ten years ago.  I went to a local ATV / snowmobile store to replace it, it didn't look squashed.  B)

Here is what 23-1050-12 Carlisle Turf Masters look like on 7" rims. They will round up more in the center with higher pressure.

Don,

Looks good! The C fenderpan has more clearance than the 300-500 pans.So much so that I'm looking for a good one to replace my 520h pan and run 26" ags.

I've been happy with 23-8.50-12 they seem to be a happy medium.

I have 25-900-12 Carlisle All Trail II on a 312-8. I raised fender pan, bracket and gas tank 1 3/4". They just miss the foot pads after I bent the out side edge out.

as far as the rims being old,are they rusted real bad:?ive had rims real rusted and cleaned them up with an angle grinder(before I bought a sand blaster)and with some patience you can make them look brand new,you don't even half to take the tires off,but you say you are anyway, but they can be simply just taped, some guys break the beads so they can pait the ridge of the rim,i like to paint the inside first, dont do the outer rim or anything on the outside, mount the tires, dont seat them at all, tape off the tires real good, then piant the outer and the rim part that gets wrecked when mounting the tire, let paint dry and blow them up no scuffs,or chips from mounting

Don,

Looks good.I have seen those pictures before.I am trying very hard not to raise the fender pan or seat.I can get creative with the plasma torch if I have to.

Last summer I installed 23 x 10.50-12 Deestone ags on stock C-series rims, I knew they'd bulge out so I raised the fender pan an inch and 1.5" wheel spacers to match the front track of a swept forward axle.  It is very easy to raise the fender pan...  plasma cutting seems like a lot of unnecessary, extra work!

A C series pan has over 3/8" more clearance than 300-500 fender pan.The outer lip is pointed down more as well.Light the torch and you can get an extra 1/2".I like the seat at it's current height.I try to set all my horses up so they feel the same as far as distance to steering wheel and pedals go.To fit 26" ags on my 520 I am willing to cut off the whole

outer pan and weld on boat trailer fenders to cover the tires.

there is or are 2 different sizes of the 23x10.50x12 tires the Carlisle run more true to size, the destone's run smaller. i mount the destone 23x10.50x12 on the 7.5x12 rims and they look good and actually measure 23x9.50x12. some of the other guys on here can chime in here on other brand tires that run on the smaller side. it's a cheater way to run the 10.50 tires on your 7.5 rims. i have run and have seen other run the carlise 10.50 on the 7.5 rims, so it can be done, it does make it hard to run chains on them when squished on the 7.5 rims. good luck
