Lane Ranger 11,398 #2 Posted February 26, 2016 1963 tractor. The hood has a metal lip band on the edge at the bottom-between the gas tank and the front of the hood.

WheelHorse79 271 #6 Posted February 28, 2016 (edited) Correct. 854 stands for 8=8HP 5=Electric Start 4=1964. They are a great tractor. I grew up with the one my Dad bought used in 1966. Many fond memories! Edited February 28, 2016 by WheelHorse79
engineguy63 238 #7 Posted February 28, 2016 I am guessing the original tank has issues.........looking at the setup it has currently!!
WheelHorse79 271 #8 Posted February 28, 2016 Apparently. Wheel Horse actually came out with a repair for the 2 piece gas tanks that involved cutting out part of the bottom piece of the tank and inserting a smaller 1 piece tank into the 2 piece assembly. Looks like someone tried this approach without the cutting and insertion! If the old tank isn't cut up, it can probably be repaired with a new reproduction gasket or a 2-part epoxy tank sealant. The tank is aluminum so it won't ever rust.
