i'm surprised that nobody brought up the front quick attach bracket which unless dearer installed would make it a 73,  but the manual pto linkage like that makes it an older than 7. Sooo I don't have any definitive answer for you. my dad bought a 73 12 AUTO in the fall of 73 and probably help make me the wheel horse nut that I'm today

that looks like the 73 12 AUTO dad bought new in 73, it's still on my bucket list of tractors to have in my heard

Looks like it's confirmed.....1972 Charger 10 automatic.....the brochure info definitely confirmed it. As previous stated "we have a WINNER!!!!" 

THANK YOU EVERYONE for ALL the input.....  Now the hunt begins to find one.   I will post if and when I find one.

Great Horse! Good luck with your search. The '73 "No Name" dressed up a bit, baby moons and coarse grip skateboard grip tape(works great).

My Dad collected old Chevys for many years and one thing I learned from him was that to verify something in particular, you must refer to factory literature.

 

I've not read a book yet about classic and antique Chevys that didn't have a mistake in it.   Some of the factory literature may have a typo or seem inconsistent too, and they did make changes during model year runs also.  It's fun to figure things out though! 

 

And good luck in your search to track down your tribute Wheel Horse to your father.

The wheel Horse tractors definately have a strong following ...I remember sitting on my Dad's Charger 10 when I was 5 years old.....it made quite an impression on me back then.....and back then I couldnt believe he sold it so soon and had it for such a short period of time.  He did buy me a B115 automatic brand new in 1982...but giving a 14 year old a tractor and telling him to do what he wants with it....probably not the best idea....I beat the hell out of that tractor plowing snow and hauling wood and dirt.....but I couldn't kill it.  Got hooked of the wheel horses recently (again) when I saw them at the local fair going garden tractor pulls....there were quite a number of the old Horses there.....and they did very well.

Yes, my love for  originated with my Dad owning them when I was a kid, eventually owning them myself.  See my post that has been pinned titled "VINTAGE PICS", on this forum.  I have 5 currently, including a 1982 B-115, coincidentally, but it's a 5 speed.   I attached a pic for ya.

That brings back some memories.... Had a chance to pick one of those up last summer.....it was actually in nice condition...all there.... for $400....  Kick myself for not buying it.  But hunting them down is as much fun as working or restoring them.... And when you are searching for a specific model....and find it....its like finding gold...lol.

i would respectfully disagree with the charger 10, if you look at the brochure above the charger 10 has a different mule drive then the charger 12. now i don't personally know which  mule drive came on on the above tractors. but the pictures show the a pre 72/73 mule drive where as in your picture that you originally posted you can see the new quick attach system on it. i had a 72 bronco 14 that had the new quick attach bracket but no guts in it, just used it for a hood mount. 72 was the change over year for the quick attach, so in true wheel horse fashion they probably used up parts that they had on hand then slowly started using the new stuff. then by 73 every new wheel horse garden tractor had them on, good luck

Does the mule drive come off when you take the mower deck off?? The two pictures I have....it doesnt have the deck on it...I had a John Deere 318 once that had a similar set up. ..and when the mower deck and belt were removed....the drive pullies on the front of the machine also had to come off....without any belt tension on the drive system ...it would fall off if it wasn't removed....just  a thought??????  I'm thinking a Charger 10 because it's advertised as an "entry level" automatic....and that seems more like what my Dad would have purchased.... He was a little "tight" with the $$$$ sometimes.

 someone told me that all 72 Broncos had the Stripe standard. But it was an option on the chargers? another unresolved Wheel Horse mystery?

I am trying to find a picture of a NOS Bronco that Larry from Missouri had.

Here's a NOS Raider 14. My Dad bought a Raider 12 new and it had strips. I think unresolved mystery was the right way to put it.

I inherited a Raider 14 from my grandpa that no longer has the stripes on the hood but definitely shows evidence that they were once there. I'm glad I found this thread. I was thinking somebody must have swapped the hood but it looks like maybe it is original.
