mikehusky455 16 #1 Posted February 25, 2016 took stator off cause both plug ends were burnt,it had another wire, about 2inches long also coming out of stator,,not shure what that would go to.the stator bench test did show good.,not shure if going with new reg.cause electric pto don't work anyway and don't need.to recap ,need to know what that 3rd short wire is for, thanks. pfrederi 18,566 #2 Posted February 25, 2016 Your post is a bit hard to follow. if I read it correctly the third wire is for your breakerless ignition system and should feed the trigger module. You can fry a very expensive/hard to find coil and/or trigger module if you connect it wrong. You had better study the Kohler engine manual.
mikehusky455 16 #3 Posted February 25, 2016 it was like that when I got ,someone already switchd to battery ignition,it has silinoid, external coil, and points onside of motor, just didn't know what wire was from,.
pfrederi 18,566 #4 Posted February 25, 2016 With the modified ignition you do not need that wire.
Howie 899 #5 Posted February 26, 2016 What was said above, mine has been like that since the mid 70's. Just tape it up to isolate it.
mikehusky455 16 #6 Posted March 12, 2016 is there a way to tell what ,out of the 2 remaining wires what wire is charge and what is lights ,or are they not set up like that,.all I want to do is have push-button start and toggle switch to shut off but would be nice to also charge battery, since I'm thinking about not installing new vol.reg. pfrederi 18,566 #7 Posted March 12, 2016 (edited) The two wires coming from the stator (probably the same color) are the AC output from the stator. (Should produce 30+ volts AC at half throttle or above) They feed the voltage regulator Regulator converts it to DC feeds it to ignition switch which then feeds the accessories and battery. You sort of have to have a regulator if you want to charge your battery. Edited March 12, 2016 by pfrederi
