I agree with squonk on the dry graphite lube. The problem with using lithium grease is it attracts dirt and ends up doing more harm than good. I often thought about greasing my lift cable but after seeing what grease mixed with dirt and sand will do to parts over along period of time made me change my mind.

I left mine dry, although I had the plastic sheathed cable if it makes any difference

One of our members in the vendor section sells the plastic sheathed cable. Mine slips through very easily.

Grandsons use WD-40 (water displacement) and/or PB Blaster all the time, everywhere if we're not at TSC browsing. Clean machines!

Grandsons keep the Horses clean 'n lubed 100% of the time. I believe they get more attention than our dog partner does.

Any Dry Lubricant would work I would think. I used to use Liquid wrench Teflon spray for internals on fire arms. Here is a pic of another brand that would essentially lub but not attract and cause issues.

And, in the USMC scrub barrels with panty hose! Cleans non-abrasive for firearm barrels, and besides, what Stallion wouldn't like panty hose?

Pantyhose was the secret to an awesome spit shine on our combat boots.
