midpack 1,010 #1 Posted February 21, 2016 I'm trying to get a magnum 12 to turn over. The key (start pos) sends power to the solenoid but won't close the circuit to power the starter. Jumping the solenoid poles will. So I'm thinking the solenoid needs replacing. It's a white-rodgers 120-160341 which doesn't seem to be readily available. Anyone have a replacement number? There are a few on eBay that look similar. Anything special I should look for? Any help would be great! Thanks
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,492 #2 Posted February 21, 2016 If you are jumping from the battery cable to the small terminal at the base then the solenoid is OK if the starter runs. You have a problem elsewhere. https://www.rcpw.com/search/?quest=110167 Garry
midpack 1,010 #3 Posted February 21, 2016 Battery to small terminal does not run the starter. If I jump the 2 large posts it does.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,492 #4 Posted February 21, 2016 Sounds like your solenoid has failed. Garry
Phatboy 565 #5 Posted February 21, 2016 (edited) Does it have 2 big terminals going north and south then 2 plug or little flat ones on the bottom ? If so i have one for you.. But first the reason i have one is because mine was doing the same thing so naturally i got a new one,, come to find out there is a junction of wire to the right side of the battery that has a brown wire on one of the connections,, the end was rusted off,, so i put a new end on it and waalaa !! So need less to say i replaced the solenoid for nothing,, but it actted exactly as you described,, so check them wires and make sure they are all connected good , and if so and ya still need a solenoid,, my old one still looks like new ,, send me a pm and i will send you it , you just pay the shipping i will give to you for free...good luck !! P.s. They were all plugged into the relay on right side of battery.. Edited February 21, 2016 by Phatboy
pfrederi 18,690 #6 Posted February 21, 2016 Tractor supply is a source you may be able to drive to even home depot/lowes now that they have summer mower stuff in stock. Just about any 12v starter solenoid will work.
