Suburban tires opinions?

Recommended Posts

Alright, another question.  I know I've been full of 'em lately:D. I getting further along on my son's 61 suburban restore and am to the point of tire choices. I've got a set of good year turf tires and a set of bfg ag's.  I pulled the good years out of the barn and took a pic today (with Emory).  Both sets are old and show some weather cracks, but I haven't seen many suburbans with this style of turf tire.  By the way, his 60 suburban has a new set of Carlisle ags, so which should I put on his 61?  Leaning toward the turf tires just to be different.  Opinions?

I always use original tires if i can. When i restored my suburban i used a set of silver towns even though they were a little weather cracked. I kept them lubed up about twice a week for a month or so and now they look great and haven't did much to them in awhile. I also hear that miller tire paint works very well

Thanks guys.  I spent the last hour or so working on the rims.  I don't think the tires have ever been off the rims.  The rims do have some heavy pitting and one has two small holes near the valve stem, but I think I'm going to try to save them.  I'll just be out of a little bit of paint and a lot of time if I end up not liking them.  Like you said, I think Emory likes them better than the other set of ags I have.  I do tend to spoil him a little, but he's a really good kid - loves people, usually polite, respectful, and enjoys everything.  He had a stroke shortly before birth.  His whole right side was effected, but thanks to God and lots of therapy he now only has a little trouble with his right hand.  He's my world and I'm very proud of him!

This is a 1963  Goodyear tire I painted twice with Miller Tire Paint.  The stuff is worth every penny!  Works great like Craig says above!

Looks great!  These suburbanites have quite a bit more cracking than that, but I still think they look pretty coolB). That's my problem - the bfgs don't have a lot of cracking, but somehow lack the cool factor.

Well, I got froggy and pulled the tires from the old rims.  Got new rims from Miller to use - the others were toast.  Cleaned these with Bleach White and they already look better.  Gotta order some tire paint nowB).
