new2horses 287 #1 Posted February 18, 2016 I am being a little lazy here, so I am asking y'all as opposed to doing the research myself. So here goes. What modifications, if any, are required to mount a 60" deck from a 520 on a D-200? I know there is a mule specific to the "D" so discounting that. Thanks in advance, David
WNYPCRepair 1,923 #2 Posted February 18, 2016 The 60" would be no different than any other deck for the 300, 400, and 500 series, will they fit on a D series? The only thing other than the mount point would be front tire clearance, might need a swept forward axle
cleat 7,279 #3 Posted February 18, 2016 Yes, you need the swept axle. The mule drive is different on the 520 as well in that the idler pulley is spring loaded.
JackC 617 #4 Posted February 18, 2016 You would need to remove the deck hanging hardware off of the 60" and then you would need the deck hanging hardware off of a D deck and it should bolt onto the 60" deck. Unless you have wide open spaces and like riding the D, why would you want to mow with a D when a 520 should be better? JMHO
tommyg 154 #5 Posted February 26, 2016 I've done it. Mounted the 60" deck under my D180. Absolutely love it. I found a hanger for the D, then mounted it on the deck. Had to extend and angle the arms slightly so I could mount the deck back far enough to clear the front wheels. But really, the hardest part was finding a belt to fit. I may have some pics I can send, but I've got the blower on right now.
new2horses 287 #6 Posted February 26, 2016 tommyg, thank you. I suppose I could have added a little more background info. I bought a 520 that had "spark issues" testing at home revealed 120#'s compression on the front cylinder and 50#'s on the back cylinder. the tractor came with a 60" deck and, of course, a swept forward front axle. I think we all pretty well know what the "spark issue" is, so the tractor is most likely going to be parted. Knowing that, a Buddy has a D200 without a deck,,,,so instead of doing the dirty work myself I turned to you all. I did already know that it needed a mule drive, but didn't know about the quick-tach hardware. We did pull a tape and the distance between the wheels is the same on both tractors. So if I understand correctly the hanger brackets used on the "D" would be different than those for the 5XX machine. Thanks once more.
DennisThornton 4,771 #7 Posted February 26, 2016 I'm guessing the back cyl overheated but I forget what's the cause for the lower compression. My first wish would be to rebuild the Onan but you seem to be indicating that's a major issue. Bore scored? Lack of over-sized parts?

That is correct. You'll need a D hanger. I modified the length of both arms so that they lined up with the existing rear supports on the deck. It's not a 60" deck from the XI series is it? I looked at that options once and it was not going to work. I'm going to try and up load a pic for you but for some reason it's not letting me do that in this post. Stay tuned. tommyg 154 #9 Posted February 26, 2016 Here's a look. You can't see the modification to the support arm, but I can probably get you a better pic if you need one.
