jhef 10 #1 Posted February 16, 2016 Could my 414 have enough power to pull a Swisher type brush cutter.

jhef 10 #3 Posted February 16, 2016 Kinda what I'm thinking. They say as far as atvs at least a 400 cc not sure what cc a 14 horse is but I'd think it be around 500 or so.
Ed Kennell 42,051 #4 Posted February 16, 2016 (edited) With out question the 414 would have enough HP. The limiting factor in most of these tractors is traction, not HP. Edited February 16, 2016 by ekennell
cleat 7,259 #5 Posted February 16, 2016 If the Swisher is self powered, you do not need much to just pull it around.
BESTDOGEVER 218 #6 Posted February 16, 2016 A 310-8 will easily pull 1000 lbs of wood in a 2 wheel cart all day long that mower is not that heavy and has a real low center of gravity the 414 would have no problem with that. It would probably not even notice that the mower was following it.
jhef 10 #7 Posted February 16, 2016 Thanks. I got some brush and briars about 5 foot tall to cut before I can make a Greenfield on it.
pfrederi 18,690 #8 Posted February 16, 2016 Tractor will pull it no problem...you may get torn up by the briars as you try to drive over them, hope the swisher can be offset to one side

BESTDOGEVER 218 #10 Posted February 16, 2016 I think they all are set up to be offset I have always had that thought as a plan b if I needed a mower
953 nut 60,098 #11 Posted February 16, 2016 (edited) As you become more familiar with your you will be amazed at the work it can do. Like Ed said earlier, traction is the limiting factor. If the brush is 5' high you will be glad the transmission has a low range, the Swisher will be working pretty hard! Safety glasses and gloves, at the bare minimum. Leathers would be nice. I had a patch at the back of my yard, along with some brush. I used my blade to shove the brush and briars back into the woods. On of the briars hit my glasses, and had I not forgotten to take them off (they are just reading glasses) it would have taken out my eye. As it was, I looked like I had been through a fight inside a bag with a very ticked off cat. I had cuts and scratches all over, including a huge piece ripped out of my leg, right through my jeans.
Tankman 3,523 #13 Posted February 16, 2016 Use a gas bladed wacker first. I did, then mow.

Don1977 605 #15 Posted February 17, 2016 Use a full face shield heavy coat and gloves even with a bladed weed wacker. If its thick briers a wheel horse won't get thru. I cut some thick briers 8 ft. high with a 30 HP farm tractor and a 5 ft. bush hog it just made it thru.
