MaineDad 87 #1 Posted December 7, 2008 Guys, Quick question. While I am waiting for a new woodruff key and oil seals for my 314-8, I noticed a very small amount of play when I push the axle shaft in and out. It maybe moves in and out about 2 or 3 milimeters, very little. That's normal right? I also measured the axle and it's 1 and 1/8" - I thought they were 1" axles before. Butch 194 #2 Posted December 7, 2008 My 85 314-8 has 1" axles. As for end play I don't know. As for metric end play I positively don't know! :hide:
Duff 206 #3 Posted December 7, 2008 Hi, Micah, I had this same concern when I was rebuilding my 312-8. Several of the more experienced guys here reassured me that a little in-and-out end play on the rear axles on these tractors is perfectly normal. I don't know about the axle size - mine are 1", but maybe they went up when they increased horsepower? Let me know how the axle seal replacement goes - I've probably got to change mine in the spring. MaineDad 87 #4 Posted December 7, 2008 Thanks. I thought it is OK but just wanted to double check.
MaineDad 87 #5 Posted December 7, 2008 How many seals are used per axle? The parts diagram shows two, but I'm not sure the second one was supposed to represent the other side's axle. Curved side out right?
