vette10r 13 #1 Posted February 10, 2016 Hey I have a C-81 and put a different exhaust on it, the original one was completely shot and so loud I had to use ear plugs to use it. I purchased a muffler from TSC and it sounds much better now and I like the way it looks but its idling very high even with the idle all the way down. Which screws do I adjust to correct this? Thanks

oldlineman 1,512 #4 Posted February 10, 2016 not sure but one is high speed fuel adjustment and other is low speed fuel adjustment adjustment for fuel to air mixture
vette10r 13 #5 Posted February 10, 2016 Ok so the dark grey/black screw is what I need to adjust and im assuming adjust it in to close off the air flow? Then leave both the gold screws alone?
wallfish 17,826 #6 Posted February 10, 2016 Go in the manuals section and download a Kohler engine manual. It will cover how to adjust the carb. You should fix that link and adjust the governor too which is also covered in the manual
lynnmor 7,680 #7 Posted February 10, 2016 Adjust the small black one till it idles rather slow. Now adjust the one on the left till it idles at its best. You may have to go back and forth a few times if the speed changes much. Now set the correct idle speed. Next, open the throttle quickly and see if it responds well, if not you may have to adjust the other one. Always err on the rich side (counterclockwise) because way too lean can burn valves.

WHX?? 51,323 #9 Posted February 10, 2016 The small black screw is in way too far as told by the very compressed spring, Follow the advice above and you hopefully have it. Yes too lean will will result in higher head temps & valve issues.

Yes that's my plan, I do want to restore this tractor to as original as possible so I'll slowly chip away at parts as I find them.
