Sarge 3,465 #1 Posted December 7, 2008 Ok, so the 'ol 1277 is out doing her work this year on the snow , but... It's soooo slow to lift and seems like it really lacks any grunt . I've got the lift arms keyed in the short holes to give it the most leverage but it seems the cylinder itself is at fault , just no real power to lift or put down pressure on the blade . Otherwise, the forward/reverse is real strong and it will easily spin the wheels . This cylinder, valve and unidrive is all swapped from the 876 and otherwise seems to work fine. I'm leaning towards the cylinder packing having blowby , but how the heck can it be rebuilt ? Looks like the ends are welded ? Sarge
.5racer 14 #2 Posted December 7, 2008 The end will have to be cut to be removed and then rebuilt , then welded back on with out burning or melting the seal ring.
Sarge 3,465 #3 Posted December 7, 2008 Rats, I was afraid of that . I do have access to a small lathe and have a tig here , so that part is covered . Question is , how bad is it to obtain the packing seal and how common are they ? In the mean time, I gotta find a working cylinder to get me by for the winter while the original gets rebuilt .... Thanks for the info ! Sarge
ol550 830 #4 Posted December 7, 2008 Does the cylinder leak down once you have the blade lifted? If it doesn't the cylinder piston packing is not the problem. Possibly a charge pump or relief valve. :hide:
Sarge 3,465 #5 Posted December 8, 2008 It will leak down , but slowly if I run a short distance with the blade in the up position . I wondered about the relief valve , but where is it in the trans ?? Sarge
