Tankman 3,523 #1 Posted February 4, 2016 (edited) Was in a bind, "new" 1990 520-8 with the swept forward axle and no frame extension. Without the extension couldn't angle the blade and the blade was awfully close to the front tires. Measured the frame outside dim's, and the inside dims. I had a local sheet metal shop form two spacer channels outside dim's x 4 1/2" long. Two reinforcement channels inside dimensions x 12" long. I spaced these evenly in the frame. The sheetmetal shop charged me $10. Material was 12 ga CRS (cold rolled steel). Cut the frame and stich welded the outside spacer channels to the frame. Stitch welded the inside dim reinforcement channels into the frame to reinforce the outer spacers. The angle control rod I cut and welded a 1/2" dia x 4 1/2" long piece. The blade angle release wire, 1/8" dia rod I bent a new piece; picked up at Lowes (cheap enough). My weld job isn't great, old eyes. Excuses, excuses. The setup works great, pushed a mountain of snow numerous times, couple of years worth Plenty of clearance to angle the blade. Did not have to change anything else to operate the dozer comfortably. Tankman 3,523 #2 Posted February 4, 2016 After cutting the frame, when spaced, the rail angles are a bit out of alignment. No big deal. The spacers stitch welded in place are fine. Moved a lot of snow, dirt and stone with my "adjusted" frame.

DennisThornton 4,771 #4 Posted February 4, 2016 Some WH snow blade frames had/have rear extensions...
tractorhogg 612 #5 Posted February 5, 2016 I've got a frame with an extension on the rear, that went for a C, 300, 400 series, but was lengthened for a D. I'd sell the frame for 50.

DennisThornton 4,771 #7 Posted February 5, 2016 I'd like to know more about the extensions and how or if the lift and blade controls end up where they should be. Are your controls convenient?

Are your controls convenient? The factory extension set is 2 parts. The obvious part 1, on the rear of the frame, pushes (moves) the blade forward. Part 2 a frame wide channel that moves the lift and angle control rod to the rear. The blade release 1/8" dia rod and the 1/2" dia blade angle control must be changed. Because I didn't have both parts is the reason I cut and extended the frame towards the front. My "field fix" is working excellently. Worked before my fix but as noted, blade close to the wheels and was impossible to angle the blade. Blade hit the wheels. I might note those frames with only 3 angle positions could be drilled (1/2" dia clearance holes) to provide 5 angle positions. Some plows had this provision stock.
