Second opinions not just for medical stuff

I took my wheels and seat pan parts in to be powder coated today.

Luckily i I had two locations within 30-40 minutes of each other.

I had a close Fred Sanford episode at first location. 6-700 for lot depending on whether how difficult the paint was to remove. You could scratch it with fingernail almost as they were basically primed with a single topcoat after I blasted them this summer. Needless to say, I politely exited. BTW, this was a Powdercoat business.

The next location was a do it all kind of shop. Cycle parts, Mecahnical repair, minor paint and restoration. They run sand blast and powdercoat on Saturdays. 250 and much easier group to deal with. My heart rate has returned to normal.

I think 250 is pricey but a lot more fair. It is after all NY and the guy probably pays over half to the state.

definitely worth the second opinion.

Many times pricing has to do with whether or not they actually will want to do the work.  A bunch of smaller bits is much worse than a few larger parts.  Also, Harley or other owners are often willing to pay more than an old tractor guy.

$250 to blast/prep/powder is a good price for what your having done. You said you blasted them before? I'm sure you coukd have saved $100 if you bought the parts in blasted already. Prep is everything in powder coating. That is where most of that $250 is going. Post some pics when you get it all back.

I agree 250 is good deal.

i changed my mind on rims and decided to powder coat rather than just paint them. My garage is unheated and cold. And I am fragile compared to a decade ago. Otherwise I would have reblasted them.

i am stoked as I think the fella is going to do a nice job on the rims as he seems to be in restoration of Vespa cycles and classic bikes and stuff. Actually was interested in my project.

I'll try and post pic on my GT Restomod thread when I pick them up in a week or two.

You got a great deal compared to Atlanta prices. I was gettung prices for my Raider 12 . All the shops I talked to said 100.00 per wheel did not matter what size.

I'll be researching a home set up next. I want to be able to do ceracoating for my other hobbies.

i imagine the furnace can serve dual purposes.

a couple of grand seems high until you want some pieces done....

I'm sure somebody will someday convince me what's all that good about powder-coating but it hasn't happened yet...  I think it has caught on because of environmental and state regs making painting more and more expensive, but that doesn't make it better.  And yes, before I pay someone else 6-$700 to do some WH wheels I'll have my own homemade setup!

I purchased my '90 520-8, was sitting at a barn. Cover blew off. Saw the Horse from a distance, didn't know the model.

One day, grandson and I stopped. The owner came out, chatted.

Rebuilt Onan. Doesn't use the Horse. Grandson 'n I took the poor Stallion home.

A Gin Mill friend has a huge sand blasting cabinet. Blasted piece by piece, a freebie. Grandson and I primed, then rattle can Rustoleum Regal Red. Our favorite Horse color.

Belts, oil, fuel lines, seat, shift boot, lamp bezels, head 'n tail lamps, SS hardware, Never-Seez, skateboard grip tape, muffler "bling", Terry's decals of course. More. The TORO air screen and steering wheel centers were OK but we're allergic to TORO. Now Wheel Horse logos.

The PO and his brother don't talk, family feud. At a family gathering the two friends chatted, "I sold my Wheel Horse."

The seller and blaster put two 'n two together. We all had a good laugh.

Recently a new 48" SD deck with chute and new boxed mule drive. Was headed to salvage. We picked it up and hauled it no charge for Leon Redbone who was cleaning out his barn. He's lucky we helped him clean his barn.

Tankman, that is one fine story and pics to go with it!

And one proud littler fella at the wheel!

Just one little question.  What that on his hat?  B)

Looks like fresh cow droppings.

Helped Mr. Redbone clean the barn a little more. The Work Horse runs fine, was sitting for ten years. Grandsons and I hauled it away for him, no charge.

That was very big of us boys. Don't ya think?

We added the dial height adjust (eBay $10).

Well, maybe not "fresh"...  I have other brands and plan on adding a green one when the right one comes along!

So the Dial-a-Height is just missing on the WorkHorses?  All you have to do is add it?  (you know I have one and never paid attention but I've read that was one of the differences...)

can whlvr

the workhorse,s were a little cheaper option to get people buying wheelhorses,so they tipically didn't hve the extras, like my 308-8,it has no extras but is still a great horse as is the workhorse line

Thought the Work Horse was a Wheel Horse. Other than the dial-a-height, feels and operates fine.

The 16 hp 2 cyl Briggs runs very well. I was always Kohler, now Onan and Briggs.

Am I missin' more differences?

didn't like all gray, guards are now Rustoleum Regal Red.
