engineguy63 238 #1 Posted January 25, 2016 (edited) OK, Had a nice surprise. left the tranny in the truck...ready to go to a friends heated garage and decided to turn it around to face the sun for a few hours.......GOT WARM Enough to FREE THE TRANNY UP. The only liquid in the tranny was H2O, so, after draining ...filled half full with wd40. I figured that would loosen any leftover goo and rust. I spun the input and it got better and better, now it is pretty smooth and goes into the gears nicely. I GUESS I WAS VERY LUCKY!! I will keep turning it and slushing it around for a couple days then re drain it. I am planning on filling with 90weight gear lube....sound correct? ALSO is the 1/8 " pt plug on the side of the case a level indictor so you do not overfill??? As you can see its almost all apart......One nice thing is almost every piece is small enough to go into my friends blast cabinet!!! Makes for easy prep!!! On My way!! Since you used WD-40 I would suggest you flush it out with oil and make sure you slosh it around real well. Glad it wasn't anything serious. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

engineguy63 238 #6 Posted January 25, 2016 The engine that found its way into the above picture is a 1 1/2 hp NEWWAY, As the other pic's show I am more of an engine guy than a tractor guy. Tankman 3,523 #7 Posted January 25, 2016 (edited) Great looking engines! A note, which I posted numerous times, Mobil 1 75W-90 synthetic gear lube. UPS uses only this gear lube. Their data base (extensive) proved to them, longer gear life. A bit costlier but how often is gear lube changed? Not too often. Do you run any equipment with them or just the engines alone? As for that trans, I'd flush it with diesel or kerosene before you load it with gear lube to remove any of the WD 40. Most guys remove the gear shifter to poor in the liquids. I'd bolt it down and hook an engine or electric motor to the input pulley and spin it through the gears with kerosene in it, to make sure the inside cleans up well. 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

When you add your 90wt, pull out that plug...when the oil starts to come out that hole you have the correct amount of oil in there. I agree with Craig. only I use kerosene. my self I bought a 606 of E-Bay one time went to pick it up the tractor would not roll. so got the Tecky running flash it 2 times with kerosene. it was fine after that. The plug on the side is not the level indicator. It takes two quarts and will not be full when it run out the plug on the side. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Racinbob 11,938 #14 Posted January 26, 2016 Actually, per the owners manual, that plug is used to check the level. The Lubrication chart calls for 1 1/2 quarts. Takes a much longer time to breakdown synthetic oils. Oil & lubes. Molecules are like spaghetti strands. $ Lowest Cost Oil & lubes, semi-synthetic. Molecules are little round balls which vary in diameter. Recall "shear proof" advertising? $$ Pricy Oil & lubes, synthetic.
