Butch 194 #1 Posted January 1, 2016 Well I received my electric fuel pump. It would be much easier to run this pump through the mechanical one that isn't working. Would the fuel flow through the mechanical one or would it stop there? Thanks.
JPWH 6,361 #2 Posted January 1, 2016 I think that would depend on the position of the valves in the pump when it quit. If it were mine I would remove the fuel pump and plate up the hole and run the new line to the carburetor. Running the electric pump through the mechanical pump may cause more problems than you have now.
squonk 43,843 #3 Posted January 1, 2016 Just leave the old pump there. Won't hurt anything. I left the old pump on my C-160. Been there for years and didn't hurt anything.
Ed Kennell 42,042 #4 Posted January 1, 2016 Agreed, leaving it there to cover the hole won't hurt anything. But I wouldn't run the fuel thru it. If the diaphragm gets cracks, you will be pumping fuel into the crankcase.
squonk 43,843 #5 Posted January 1, 2016 That's kinda what I meant to say. Leave the pump on to keep badgers out and run the hose from the new pump to the carb directly.
Tankman 3,523 #6 Posted January 1, 2016 Leave the pump just bypass it. New fuel lines along with a new fuel filter.
Don1977 605 #7 Posted January 1, 2016 You can make a cover plate and remove the pump. A 1/8" thick piece of Aluminum would be the easiest to work with.
baerpath 517 #8 Posted January 1, 2016 Seen guys cut the lever off, take the diafram out, and pump fuel through the casing. Won't put fuel into the oil. even at 10psi. Then it looks normal on a tech Gotta watch them pullers
