kohler k241 acting up

Recommended Posts

So the k241 kohler on my 1076 is acting up. The tractor runs great when you first fire it up and the engine is cold, but the hotter the engine gets the worse it runs. When it gets hot it's just spitting and sputtering and missing. I'm thinking it's an electrical problem, but would it be the condenser or the coil? Funny thing is that it just started doing this all of a sudden.

I have had a condenser act up like that before. But it kinda sounds like a dirty carb or stuck float

I think that's what I'll do, install a new condenser and see what that does.

I have the same problem with a K241. New carburetor, new points, and new condenser, adjusted valves, and the problem still persists. This has been going on now for two years. I am going to follow this thread and see what your solution turns out to be.

You have covered everything but the coil. Replace it and Im betting you will be good to go.

Be sure to buy the correct ignition coil, specified for small engines. An automotive coil will work until it shakes the internals loose, and shorts. Just sayin'.

I'm with the rest on thinking condenser or coil. I believe I would lean a little more to the coil --- but a condenser is a good bit cheaper, soooo....

Be a good time to do a change out on all 4 of the ignition items - points, condenser, coil and plug.

I don't mean to hi-jack this thread, but the coil does seem like the only thing left. Once I have been released by the old saw-bones to do some manual labor, I will swap coils with another engine.

I agree. I think I will change out on all 4 items when I get the chance.

Turns out it was the coil. I replaced the points and condenser and had the same problem, engine got hot and it started to spit and sputter. Swapped coils with the one on my case 220 (I know it's not a horse I'm sorry lol) and it purred like a kitten regardless of the engine being hot or cold. I'll have to get a coil after work tomorrow and that should do it!
