jb4249 139 #1 Posted December 23, 2015 I am trying to get a couple of old Kohler's running. I have a K90 that I intend to use on an RJ58 restore. I also picked up a K91 and it is giving me the same problem. I have replaced the points and condenser on each of them and I am still getting a weak spark, and they will not fire when pulled. The pic is of the K90 stator assembly and I also replaced the small orange wire, it looked like it was about to come apart. I am guessing that the problem is the magneto or stator. My question is which one of both? I can get a magneto / coil for about $35 but is I need the whole stator about $100. What has your experience been here. Is it normally just the magneto/ coil or the whole thing? Also is there any adjustment to the stator or is it fixed in place? Thanks, Ted
Dkphillips 22 #2 Posted December 23, 2015 Honestly Ted it has been a LONG time since I had any Kohler problems and I don't ever remember having the problems you are describing that points and a condenser didn't cure. I did have a spark problem on the Tecumseh that I replaced with the Predator but it was a broken wire behind the flywheel. I have had more trouble with fuel pumps than ignition. Wish I could help you but really do not have any advice. Good luck. Doug Just thought of something that I am sure you have done and that is to replace spark plug and spark plug wire if plug does/did not fix problem. I have had spark wire problems now that I think about it. Doug
jb4249 139 #3 Posted December 23, 2015 I haven't changed the plug wire. But I will today.

Terry M-(Moderator) 2,239 #5 Posted December 23, 2015 Ted, maybe check that blue wire connector while your checking/replacing the other items??
jb4249 139 #6 Posted December 23, 2015 I'm thinking this MIGHT be my problem. Will see if that wire twists out. I did change the orange wire with blue connector with new. Ted
KC9KAS 4,744 #7 Posted December 23, 2015 Are the magnets in the flywheel weak? I had a Clinton with weak spark and the magnets were really weak causing the problem.
