Throttle cable advice - strange routing

Recommended Posts

arrkerr

I continue to discover odd things about my recent '80 C-145 auto acquisition.  The throttle cable appears to have been re-run or replaced, and is missing part of the linkage - I don't know exactly what to call it, but its a rocker arm and a connecting link.

I can find the parts for about $15-20 to make it right.  So the question is, is there anything wrong with the way it is currently attached?  Does that arm assembly make the throttle easier to adjust, or... what does it do?  Wondering if I should just leave it be.

This is a picture of how it is run, along the wrong side of the engine.  There is a loose screw bit in the whole where I imagine the connecting rod piece should be.

This is a photo of how it is run on my '78 C-141, and how I think it ought to be on the 145 as well.

Yes, you do appear to be missing some linkage.  My 78 C141 is also identical to yours.  I probably does not make any functional difference.  All the linkage seems to do is multiply the distance traveled by the throttle lever (a small movement of the throttle cable results  in a 2X movement of the linkage).  In the C145, there is no multiplication factor.

Here are three views of the linkage on my C-145.

@arrkerr I too have several tractors with 2 different set-ups for the throttle...Just like your 2 photos

As long as everything works, I wouldn't mess with it.

Wow, well thanks so much for the comments, I'm really glad I asked.  This is such a relief!  I'll just leave it alone then.  Phew.
