WHX?? 51,859 #1 Posted December 6, 2015 OK guys I admit I am a Onan newbie, before RS I would have dicked around with with this till no end but you guys are hopefully you are my saving grace and will save me some time. When I go from idle to power up the P220 hesitates and often dies unless done slowwwwley, worse cold than when warm but even hot still happens. Tried adjusting the low speed screw and helped but not cured. Idling around 1300-1400 hundred RPM so the 520 tach says. Any advice?
lynnmor 7,846 #2 Posted December 6, 2015 Most likely that the carburetor needs cleaned. Check vacuum hoses. If that fails, check for intake manifold leaks between the two halves and all of the intake gaskets.
Ed Kennell 42,108 #3 Posted December 6, 2015 clean the carb, again and again till it runs right. Search carb cleaning or onan surging to find details and pictures of how to do the cleaning. Make sure all the holes are open.

608KEB 796 #8 Posted December 12, 2015 How would you know if the intake gasket was leaking?

Spray WD-40 or pump some motor oil along the edge of the gasket, or any suspected leak points, with the engine at idle. You may have to remove some covers to do this. If the gasket is bad, the oil will get sucked in causing a change of speed or sound and possibly exhaust smoke. Be aware that WD-40 is flammable. Use only Onan gaskets for the intake, I have had others fail.
