It was service bulletin #348 issued about 20 years after the tractors were made. I guess it too that long before time got to the gaskets enough that they finally reacted to it. You don't see many of those little boxes in place of the battery either but I think it was standard on the recoil start tractors that year. Very cool! Used a Teflon wd40 like lube to remove the surface rust followed by the linseed....does look cool ...gets some pics today and on my thread. I almost threw it away at the time, thinking someone had stuck it in the tank and cut up the tank in the process. So never toss anything.
