trainman 0 #1 Posted December 5, 2015 I have a Lauson H55D motor the tip of the crankshaft is broke off, not enough threads to get the flywheel on, I been told by many just to Tap the end of the crank and put a bolt and washer on the end. Well I want my restoration done right, will any other crankshaft like a Tecumseh take the place of the Lauson crank?
sorekiwi 761 #2 Posted December 5, 2015 I have liiked at an H55 crank and I have looked at an H60 crank, unfortunately I havent looked at them side by side to compare them. I suspect that since the oiling system is so different, that the cranks wont interchange. The H55 probably has oil galleries to take oil to the rod. The H60 depends on an oil dipper to lubricate the rod. I do have an old photograph of an H60 and HH60 crank if its of any use to compare to the crank you have: Personally I wouldnt have a problem with drilling and tapping the end of the crank. Instead of using a bolt to secure the flywheel, you could loctite in a stud and put a nut and washer on that. I would probably make the effort to do it in a lathe or mill though, to ensure you get a nice straight, and true, hole and threads.
trainman 0 #3 Posted December 10, 2015 Well I was thinking either a H60 or a H50 crank and maybe have it turned down, I have a friend of a friend who is a machinist. I would be happy with a good used H55 crank but so far have come up with nothing as finding one.
