Jeremy Watson 22 #1 Posted November 28, 2015 I'm a big follower here at Red Square not much for posting. Thought I'd share some pictures and story. The hate part started this summer with my 520. Running great one second, dead the next. Since following here the first thing I check was the 9 pin connector. One corner of the plastic connector was burnt a little. Change that ran for 10 minutes again. Double checked all wires everything was good. Back to the forum for more research. Great info on how to diagnose problem but it was like reading a foreign language to me. So ended up taking it to dealer for repair. Part behind flywheel bad and coil. Expensive part for that Onon. Labor was very reasonable. So back to loving the 520. Repair guy commented on Matts foot control and Scotts hitch saying those are stock and that there very cool. So about a month ago picked up my second tractor a 1257 with tiller. Loved this tractor as well until one first day of working it. Was in the middle of the back yard and it quite. Well a little tlc and it was back running. What can I expect from a tractor that old. It's running great now and looking forward to finishing my tilling in the

stevasaurus 23,281 #4 Posted November 28, 2015 Yes, they are old. Yes, they sometimes quit. Yes, it is usually about as far from the garage as you can get...but...it didn't happen to your brand new box store tractor, and you could work on and fix it yourself. How cool is that?? We just had 9" of heavy, wet snow last weekend. I got out the 702 with the HY-2 and snow blade. It was doing the job, and I was just about done...when (as far from the garage as you could get) I did a fast shift from 2nd to reverse. I messed up the shift forks and I was stuck in 2nd gear, and my shifter was in neutral...the blade was just hanging over the curb. Dangerous. Somehow, I managed to get it into neutral and I was able to push the tractor back to the garage. It only took a few minutes to pull the shift boot, shifter and re-aleign the forks into neutral and put it back together. Then I finished the job. It was my fault, so , a little TLC and experience did the trick. A new box store tractor would still be at the dealer.
slammer302 2,156 #5 Posted November 28, 2015 You have a nice herd! It can be expected for stuff to wear out over 40 plus years of use
Jimf413 57 #6 Posted November 28, 2015 Hi gang I have 11 WH tractors and use 9 of them and two are in rebuild stage. Im not a collector to restore them to show Im a user. I once owned my own repair shop and out of all the machines I serviced over the 15 yrs in business Wheel Horse was my all time favorite. Now Im getting back into buying machines and Iv picked up a lot of Wheel Horse treasures. Mostly from the 70's and wont own any that say Toro on them. Im about to put on the snow blade on my C160 and the blower on the 416 and I should be ready for action but after the two winters we've had here in Mass I hope I dont even need to turn the key.
KC9KAS 4,744 #7 Posted November 28, 2015 @Jeremy Watson I have a 520 and it has several (working) safety switches and when mine quits or won't start it is usually a switch problem, although I do have a problem blowing the main 20 amp fuse sometimes when I move the F/R control to Reverse. Lose wire or connection somewhere!
