rjg854 12,232 #1 Posted November 26, 2015 Needing a new seal in the vacuum pump may have allowed the gas from the tank to leak into the engine. I replaced that part in the vacuum pump and while cranking on the engine to check my work and to find out if it was going to pump fuel again I noticed what I believe was gas coming out of the crank seal on the power side of the motor. So I drained the oil and put in fresh oil. Got the fuel pump working and now it's running again. As I was test driving it to make any further needed adjustments, I again saw now oil leaking from that shaft. So will that stop do you think, or am I going to need to tear the engine down to fix it? Is there something else that I could do short of that? It's a k181, and it runs well other than that.
KC9KAS 4,744 #2 Posted November 26, 2015 Sounds like pressure in the crankcase instead of vacuum.
rjg854 12,232 #3 Posted November 28, 2015 Thanks so much! That must have been just what it was. I pulled the carb and the fuel pump to get to the crank case breather, took that apart, cleaned that real well, put it all back together, and it's not throwing oil like it was. That's what I love so much about this forum, the wealth of knowledge that's here, well worth the price of admission. Thanks again for the idea, man did that ever make my day
KC9KAS 4,744 #4 Posted November 29, 2015 @ranger13148 Glad to here all is well now. Not tractor related, but.... I see you are from Seneca Falls, NY I was a member of our volunteer fire department for 30+ years and our 1st "fire engine" was a hand pumper made in SENECA FALLS NY by a company called L.M Rumsey. It is an 1891 model. I rebuilt it and when I retired from the VFD 3 years ago, it still worked! Back in 1891 the fire insurance company had a picnic to raise the $245 to purchase the fire engine!
rjg854 12,232 #5 Posted November 29, 2015 There used to be quite a bit of manufacturing here in Seneca Falls. We're on the Barge Canal and with the falls producing water power for the factories this was a good place for manufacturing. Most of that is long gone though but it's still a good place to live.
